Diagnostics & Repair

According to MACK before model year 2002, a single symptom typically had 5 potential causes. From model years 2003 to 2010, a single symptom could have up to 10 potential causes due to the complexity and increase of electronics used. Because post-2010 engines have added even more complex arrays of monitoring and actuator circuits, a single symptom can now have up to 25 potential causes.

Our Red Seal Heavy Duty technicians have 4 years and 7,200 hrs apprenticeship training for diagnosing and repairing these complex systems. They use the latest tools, techniques and technology to effectively and efficiently work to get the job done right!

Pride in Workmanship, Pride of Ownership.

ReBuild / RePower

Extend the life of your vessel with an engine rebuild or re-power. A well-designed hull can last for decades, well past when most engines begin to fade out. If you love your boat but the engine’s past it’s prime, rebuilding or re-powering is an affordable option.

Decision Time. New or Rebuilt?

There are many benefits to both rebuilding your current engine and buying a new one. Your decision will be based on many factors, including cost, horsepower needs, fuel efficiency, emissions and more. If your boating location has changed you may need more horsepower, suggesting a new engine. Whatever your needs, we’ll help you evaluate options and make the best choice.

Rejuvenate Your Boat’s Engine!

Re-powering is exactly what it sounds like – getting a new and better power source behind your boat. You can choose to rebuild your existing engine, or get a new one. Either way this cost-efficient option is a great alternative to buying a new boat or continuing expensive maintenance on an aging engine. Best of all, you get a more powerful and/or fuel efficient engine with optional EPA Tier 4 emissions certification.

Re-power Questions? We’re Ready

Our knowledgeable and trained service team members are ready to help you weigh rebuilding vs re-powering options. The result will be a better boating experience, and our focus is helping you make the right informed decision.

Project Management via Web Portal

When you are ready, either option is a large undertaking and using the project management section of 3C Yacht Services’s web portal will keep things organized and in control. Even if there are other contractors involved, our web portal project management allows them to use it – helping everyone keep in communication.

Power Train Systems

Of all the systems on your boat, none are more ignored and misunderstood than the marine drive-train. Yet because this simple but durable system is so critical to getting you where you want to go safely and efficiently, maintenance and inspection is a key to safety and durability.

Your marine drive-train may be dull and mysterious, but your boat wouldn’t get far without it.

Your boat’s marine gear has four functions. One is to engage and disengage the engine from the propeller. Another is to provide reverse rotation. These two functions are accomplished by a series of internal clutches and gear sets. Each marine gear has an internal oil pump that generates hydraulic pressure, which forces these clutches together to provide engagement. Because the pump generates heat as it pressurizes the oil, every marine gear also must have an oil cooler.

3C Yacht Systems offers AMSOIL full synthetic fluids, which will extend the life of your gear significantly.

The other function of the marine gear is to set the ratio between engine rpm and propeller rpm. A typical diesel rotates at around 2000 rpm at cruise setting. A propeller turning this fast would be highly inefficient, so it is the job of the gears to slow down the propeller rotation to roughly half that of the engine.

The marine gear performs one other vital function: It is the most convenient location from which to drive an auxiliary device, such as a hydraulic pump.

3C Yacht Systems specializes in laser alignments to ensure a perfect alignment of the entire drive-train, ensuring a long, reliable life and reducing over all costs.

Engine Mounts – one of the most overlooked items during services, these pieces degrade over time and take the engine / gear out of alignment with the propeller shaft, creating other issues leading to failure.

Coupling Systems, Propeller Shafts, Shafts Seals, Support Structures, and Propellers make up the rest of a typical drive-train on your vessel, and all must be in working order to ensure reliability.

Auxiliary Systems

A yacht will be one of the most complex pieces of equipment you will own – it’s far more than just a boat, it’s a house, it’s a power generation factory, it’s an RV, it’s pretty much everything a floating island could have!

The list of equipment that can be installed on your yacht is extensive and may include thrusters, windlass, davits, stabilizers, power steering, winches, fire-fighting systems – all taking some sort of hydraulic or electrical power to operate, and all are designed to be about safety for the vessel, and personnel about the vessel

3C Yacht Services Red Seal Heavy Duty techs training covers these auxiliary systems throughout their apprenticeship, so that they are knowledgeable in the safety of working on the equipment, ensuring they are in perfect working order for you.

Generator Systems

Probably the most important system on your yacht are the Generator Sets

The electrical power designed into a yacht is immense, and having robust, reliable systems to provide that power around the clock are the Generator Systems. They endure the longest usage, deal with the toughest environments, and usually the least maintained of the mechanical side of a vessel – probably due to the difficulty in accessibility to the GenSets.

Like the expensive big diesel engines that drive the vessel, these engines also require PMI – preventative maintenance and inspections based on the manufacturer’s list and hours of usage to ensure a long life, with reliability.

Diagnostics and repair on a GenSet incorporate a whole new set of skills required by the technician – being part Electrician!

3C Yacht Services Red Seal Heavy Duty techs apprenticeship training covers these generator systems, so that they are knowledgeable in the designs and can safely work on them, ensuring they are in perfect working order.

When it comes time to think about rebuilding, or re-placing a GenSet, Our knowledgeable and trained service team members are ready to help you with educated options. The result will be a better boating experience, and our focus is helping you make the right informed decision.

Health Reports

Buying, or Selling – the changing hands of a vessel can be an eye opening experience with potentially very expensive issues that come along with the vessel. The Mechanical Survey can be many forms of degrees in-depth and will be discussed with the client how far down they want to inspect. We highly recommend at minimum a visual inspection and sea trial at WOT (Wide open throttle) based on the duty cycle rating of that vessel’s power plants.

The pre-purchase mechanical survey is highly recommend to not just used, but to new vessels as well. Insurance companies and lending institutions always require a survey in order to secure a loan or insurance for a used vessel.

For new vessels, custom and production boat builders, even the best ones, can make mistakes and more often than not these are honest mistakes, which you want to know about before signing the paperwork. This allows you to negotiate for the corrections, or compensation on purchasing this expensive investment.

Below the water line maintenance

Bottom paint (aka antifouling paint) is a paint or coating designed to discourage weeds, barnacles, and other aquatic organisms from attaching themselves to (and in the case of wooden boats, eating) the underwater portion of your boat’s hull.

Bottom Paint: 7 Myths Debunked – There’s a botanical garden (as well as a zoo) trying to stake claim to your yacht’s hull, and it changes with season, marina, and cruising area. How then do you navigate the murky waters of anti-fouling coatings, better known as bottom paint? There are many products on the market and many more misconceptions about those products, ranging from what’s legal to what actually works. Here are seven myths and realities that will help you understand the issues of what’s on your bottom. Here is a good article from YachtWorld about bottom paints https://www.yachtworld.com/research/bottom-paint-myths-realities/

Detailing: Consistent and appropriate detailing is important for proper maintenance of your boat. Exterior detailing not only makes it look it’s best, but provides a layer of protection against the salt water and sea air. Interior detailing keeps the interior of your boat in it’s best condition, and provides that pride of ownership which 3C Yacht Services shares with it’s pride of workmanship!
